Bluetooth 5.1 Officially Announced with Centimeter-level Positioning

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) officially announced Bluetooth 5.1, which is a new location search function that can achieve centimeter-level positioning.

Bluetooth 5.0 (released in June 2016) has a transmission distance of 300 meters, low power consumption, fast speed (2Mbps), and the ability to connect two audio devices at the same time. It is rapidly popularizing and applying to smart devices.

At present, Bluetooth 5.1 is only for developers’ research. It still takes a while to be widely applied to consumer products. However, the centimeter-level specification is believed to promote the development of indoor navigation, information delivery, and object-seeking.

When using a compatible device, the user will be able to obtain directional information, not only to detect the distance of a specific object, but also to know the direction of the connected Bluetooth device, the accuracy will be up to centimeters level.
