July 17 is the World Emoji Day. Both Google and Apple took this opportunity to showcase the new emoji design that will be added to their OS system. The new emoji includes wheelchairs, guide dogs and other emojis related to people with disabilities, as well as some new animals.
Google and Apple both said that the new emoji will appear in later system update. This also means that we may have to wait until iOS 13 and Android Q release to use the new built-in emoji on the phone.
Although the emoji in the phone may take some time to update, Unicode Consortium is already preparing to add a new batch of emoji in the next year. At the same time, the Unicode Consortium is discussing whether to allow color variation in non-personal emoji. What emoji will bring to us next year is very much looking forward to.
